Hilltop Scholars Overview

Hilltop Scholars graduatesHilltop Scholars helps students to be successful in high school and fully prepared for college. We strive to provide students with a comprehensive support system through in-school and after-school support, one-on-one academic mentoring, and enrichment programs that build upon students' skills and interests. Hilltop Scholars have a serious desire to succeed in school, and plan to go to college.

Program Components

  • After-school Tutoring And In-school Support - Hilltop Scholars students receive after-school tutoring from quality tutors in all subject areas. Our tutors will also go into the students' schools and classrooms to provide students with additional support and assistance.

  • Academic Mentoring - One of the great benefits of being a Hilltop Scholar is having someone to help the student set and reach academic and personal goals. Each student will be assigned an academic mentor who will help keep track of the student's academic progress and be a strong resource for both student and parents.

  • pictureElective Class - CLASS (College Life and Academic Success Skills) is a four-year, for-credit course held after school at Peace Community Center. For each successful semester completed, students will earn a 0.5 elective credit through the Tacoma School District. The class teaches skills that are essential to being successful in high school and college. Students also study an overarching theme for the school year and find creative ways to share their knowledge with the community.

  • Summer Academic Program - Summer at Peace helps prepare students for the upcoming school year. Students work with certified teachers to refresh their math skills and complete the Honors, IB, or AP English Summer Assignment for their high school. In addition, scholars visit three local college or universities and participate in fun activities.

  • Enrichment Activities - Student will have the opportunity to participate in Hilltop Scholars community building through a meal and fun monthly enrichment activities. This is a time for students to de-stress, have fun, learn, and bond with Hilltop Scholars staff and students.
